Nature plays an important role in Paulette’s artwork even when he paints in the “big city” of Banner Elk. He brings creek water with him from home to add to the paint when he stains the canvas on the first layers. When it snows, he sticks his face in the snow before he paints just like he does in the creek when he’s painting at his home studio. When he comes to town, he sleeps in an apartment above the Banner Elk Art Gallery. He sometimes wakes up and before getting dressed, goes outside to lay down in the cold snow. It wakes up his spirit and gets him ready for a day of making art!
