In this painting, the bright yellow sun begins to pop above the horizon shining its light onto an exquisite display of fall color. The technique used to create this painting reduces the subject matter into blocks of shapes, and in doing so, the trees and hills of the landscape are suggested rather than rendered with obvious form. When viewed from up-close, the viewer must pick out shapes and pieces that form the whole. But when viewed from afar, each small shape blends together to create the landscape. The most obvious forms, two green pine trees in the foreground, point upwards to the third most obvious form, the sun, and the beauty of fall’s colorful foliage lies in between.
The title of this autumn abstract art is Sunrise Surprise.
