Marilyn was a 50’s Hollywood actress who worked with Twentieth Century-Fox and Columbia Pictures. Her movies include The Seven Year Itch, The Misfits, As Young as You Feel, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Monkey Business, How to Marry a Millionaire, Clash by Night, Bus Stop, Don’t Bother to Knock, The Prince and the Showgirl, and Niagara. Artist K. Paulette describes his process for this painting, “I painted Marilyn after a series of 4 medium size paintings. With that series, I was experimenting with different types of textures and colors. I picked my favorite texture and colors from that series and used them on this painting of Marilyn Monroe.”
“I started this painting by applying the thick texture with a palette knife. Next I stained the canvas and texture with my Creek Washes. Then I finished the painting with White Whispers.”
“I just got back from a wildflower creek walk and I think I’ve decided now that the title of this painting of Marilyn Monroe is Wildflower. I was inspired by all the wildflowers I’ve been seeing on my daily nature walks these past couple weeks when I painted Marilyn.”
“I started this painting early one morning listening to Anna Calvi’s song ‘Morning Light’. Soon after that, Cat Power’s version of ‘New York’ played. I finished the painting in a magical moment while listening to Anohni’s song ‘Hopelessness’. Each of these three songs played randomly in a long playlist that I had created and shuffled.
