In this wolf painting, fantastic use of texture, shape, and color creates the face of a wolf, staring straight forward. Her soft yellow eyes are both threatening and forgiving—intimidating and nurturing. The yellow in her eyes is repeated in block-like strokes and shapes throughout the painting, and it is seen most prominently in the background. The use of yellow in these areas, and also in the wolf’s fur, creates a beautiful color harmony as it mingles with the blues and greys of the overall painting, as well as the darker greys and blacks that make up the outline of the wolf’s head. The overall tone of the painting is cool and hushed. A unique quietness is felt when gazing into the eyes of the wolf. She is wise, wild, and intuitive, and she stares into the soul of the viewer.
